Trauma Survivors and Supporters of Survivors of Trauma are invited to share art, music, writing, poetry and other creative forms at the Healing Through Creativity Festival.

When: October 10 -19, 2008
Where: West Virginia State University, WV, USA

The experience helps trauma survivors and promotes community understanding.

We open our hearts to support those who are making their way through the various stages of recovery from physical and psychological trauma. The event is inspired for the need in the community to support survivors and to seek additional resources and contacts to help in recovery. Once aware of supportive resources, individuals may follow up with any of the fine contacts from this event for more in-depth help, education and support. You know what you would give to keep just one person from suffering. Healing through Creativity promises to be a life changing experience.

Healing through Creativity features positive-focused expressions that will help trauma survivors and promote understanding. Survivors and supporters share the fun and excitement of creativity without the fears of judgment or undeserved guilt and shame. The event promotes community awareness about the needs of survivors of trauma to the body, mind and spirit. Workshops, speakers and displays promote prevention of assault and abuse.

Healing through Creativity helps to end the need for silence, the feelings of abandonment and the undeserved guilt often felt by survivors. The event recognizes organizations that educate, serve and protect the community. Healing through Creativity July 2006 was a breakthrough for all survivors and in July 2007, Healing through Creativity returned to serve even more.

Workshops and entry are free.

Artistic works include: creative writing, poetry, painting, music, drama and other works. See workshops, hear speakers and develop your own creative talents.

We invite trauma survivors and their supporters to enter their original heart felt artistic works in this event. We are currently calling for participants and presenters who wish to join in the fun.

Please visit the website and forum at www.healingthroughcreativity.org

Thank you

The Healing through Creativity July 2008 Team

The Inner Me’ - HTC Art Contest

We have another contest taking place right now for your healing pleasure.
The contest is called 'The Inner Me' 'The Inner Me' is a theme.
All members who choose to be in the contest will have
to paint, sculpt, collage, draw or photograph
something that represents their inner self.

Here is a few questions to ask yourself before beginning that will help you understand what to create.

Who are you as a being?
What makes you unique and special?
How do you see yourself internally years from now?
Do you trust?
Are you open to the world or closed off?
Are you just breaking out of a metaphoric shell and you want to show us the freedom?
Do you do affirmations?
Are you different now considerably than you were years ago?
What in life gives you comfort inside.

This is all about what makes us, well...US! So get out your paints, crayons, camera, whatever and get involved. We have some awesome prizes to give for this contest and there may be an extra goodie or two added before the contest is out. If you win, here is what you are guaranteed.

1. Voices of Strength CD (autographed by the creator,)
2. Mindful Lullabies CD (featuring out HTC founder George Robertson and world renowned musician Jen Woodhouse)
3. Survivor Postcards (package of 8)

In order to be in the contest your art must be created between June 20th and July when the contest ends. Please do not enter art that has been created before June 20th. We're looking for something new, not something in the past that you can rely on because this contest is not just about entering and winning, it's about healing and connecting with yourself. We want you to gain something out of this experience. No poetry submissions please.
